Mysql Installer For 64-bit Mac Os X 10.6 10 6 Snow Leopard
May 26, 2020 If your Mac is using an earlier version of any Mac operating system, you should install the latest Apple software updates, which can include important security updates and updates for the apps installed by macOS, such as Safari, Books, Messages, Mail, Music, Calendar, and Photos.
MySQL server is now installed, but it is not loaded (or started) by default. Use either launchctl from the command line, or start MySQL by clicking 'Start' using the MySQL preference pane. For additional information, see Section 2.4.3, “Installing a MySQL Launch Daemon”, and Section 2.4.4, “Installing and Using the MySQL Preference Pane”. Use the MySQL Preference Pane or launchd to configure MySQL to automatically start at bootup.
When installing using the package installer, the files are installed into a directory within
/usr/local
matching the name of the installation version and platform. For example, the installer file mysql-5.6.50-osx10.8-x86_64.dmg
installs MySQL into /usr/local/mysql-5.6.50-osx10.8-x86_64/
. The following table shows the layout of the installation directory.Table 2.6 MySQL Installation Layout on OS X

I have spent the last three days trying to install and start my MySQL server and have been unsuccessful. I am new to Apache, PHP and MySQL and want to learn how to use them but without MySQL I am sunk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have done thus far:
I went to my Terminal and entered in the command 'uname -a' and received the following message: local 10.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.8.0: Tue Jun 7 16:32:41 PDT 2011; root:xnu-1504.15.3~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64
Which tells me I need the 64 bit version of MySQL
Download from MySQL :: Download MySQL Community Server
Mac OS X ver. 10.6 (x86, 64-bit), DMG Archive package
I then installed:
mysql-5.5.25-osx10.6x86_64.pkg
MySQL.prefPane
MySQLStartupItem.pkg
I then went to the Terminal and entered in the command: 'mysql' and received the following message: -bash: mysql: command not found
I then went to my Terminal and entered in the command: 'mysql_secure_installation'
and received the following message: -bash: mysql_secure_installation: command not found
I can tell you that Apache was successfully enabled and so was PHP.
But for the life of me I can not get MySQL working! PLEASE HELP!
